What's Up With the Enigma Leg Leash?

Why does the Enigma have a leg leash?

The Enigma leg leash holds the holster down when you draw.

The Enigma uses a kydex holster with secure retention. That means you need an opposing force holding the holster down when you draw, otherwise when you pull the gun up out of the holster, you could pull the whole Enigma up your body. That’s where the leg leash comes in. Simple and unobtrusive when you don’t need it, the leg leash only comes into play when you draw. It holds your holster in place, allowing you to easily defeat the retention of the kydex for a smooth, clean, and fast draw.

Can you take the Enigma leg leash off?

Short answer, no. We do not recommend using the Enigma without the leg leash. It’s like a seat belt: you may not need it every time you hit the brakes, but when you need it, you need it!

While belt tightness alone may seem like enough resistance for a clean draw when you’re standing still in your living room, the abdomen can change dimensions when sitting, lying down, or strenuously fighting. You may also experience different levels of friction when your body changes throughout the day, when you’re sweaty, or God forbid, covered in blood (hopefully not your own!). These differences in belt tension and friction can lead to unexpected belt rise and a fouled draw. Additionally, the leg leash is an extra point of security that keeps your holster on your body — exactly where you expect it — for a consistent draw every time.

Single Point vs. Two Point: What Are the Differences?

Since 2025, the Enigma comes with two leg leash options included. This allows you to try both at no extra cost, and choose the one that works best for your body type and clothing.

Single Point Leg Leash

The original, classic Enigma leg leash. The single point attaches to your Enigma at a single point on the faceplate, and forms a loop around the top of one thigh. The single point leg leash fits the widest variety of body types, and adjusts easily for both height and circumference. It has a small section of elastic to add a little stretch, making it more forgiving for muscular thighs.

Two Point Leg Leash

The Two Point leg leash attaches to your Enigma at two points — at the belt in back, and the faceplate in front. This style can be worn looser, and is good for runners and active lifestyles. The two point leg leash can be routed towards your side like a climbing harness (recommended for most users), or straight back like a thong to eliminate any trace of printing in leggings and skirts.

Sizing

The single point leg leash thigh circumference adjusts from zero up to 36 inches. The drop length is a maximum of 14 inches.

The two point leg leash is about 40 inches long — keep in mind that higher carry positions will require more webbing.

How To Adjust the Enigma Leg Leash

Since 2025, the Enigma leg leash has new patented quick adjust buckles. These use a tension bar to hold the webbing, making them easy to adjust with a single pull. Both the single point and two point leg leashes use the same quick adjust system. Simply pull the free end of the webbing to tighten, using your other hand to support the buckle and help the webbing feed smoothly. To loosen your leg leash, lift the captured end of the webbing up and past the buckle (if your leg leash is tight, you may want to unbuckle it first). Make sure to move your leg leash keepers as you adjust!

Pro tip: For easy adjustment, start with the leg leash a little too loose, fasten the buckle, then cinch your leg leash webbing down to size by pulling the free end.

Single Point

Start by adjusting the drop length. With your Enigma on, adjust the drop so that the buckle lands at the crease of your thigh. The right drop height is important. If it’s too short, it will tug your holster with every step, and you won’t have a full range of motion. Too long is less problematic, but your holster will rise further before the leg leash breaks the retention. Experiment with your drop height until you get a good range of motion, and a crisp draw. The loop portion of your single point leg leash should go around the top of your thigh, about as snug as a pair of briefs would be. You want it snug enough to stay in place, but not so tight it’s uncomfortable. For most body types, the leg leash should be high in the front, and lay in the buttock crease in back. With proper adjustment, you should be able to do squats, lunges, and go through a full range of motion without the leg leash pulling.

Two Point

Adjust your two point leg leash by putting it on, and cinching the webbing down by pulling the free end. The two point leg leash can be worn more loosely, just make sure it’s doing its job and keeping your holster down on the draw. The two point leg leash can be routed towards your side like a climbing harness (recommended for most users), or straight back like a thong to eliminate any trace of printing in leggings and skirts.

Leg leash falls down in back

Does your single point leg leash slide down in the back? This can happen immediately, or gradually throughout the day as you move around.

First, check your positioning. Is your drop length too short or too long? You want your buckle to land where your thigh naturally creases when you sit. If your drop is too short, then it will tug your leg leash up in the front when you move, causing the back to slide down. Lengthening the drop can help solve this annoying problem. Conversely, if your drop length is too long, the loop of your leg leash could be positioned too low around your thigh. You want to position the loop as high as possible, above your thigh taper, at the very top of your thigh. If your loop is too low, it will slide down the thigh.

Second, check your tightness. Since the new single point leg leash has elastic, it can be worn slightly tighter if needed to prevent it from sliding down.

For some leg shapes, such as those without a pronounced thigh taper at the top, it can be hard to fit the single point leg leash. But no worries — you can always switch to the two point leg leash instead. Enigmas sold after February 2025 will come with both leg leash options. Leg leash buckle comes unclipped

Does your leg leash buckle come unclipped unexpectedly? Maybe it pops open and dangles out the bottom of your shorts, causing an embarrassing problem for summer carry! Here’s how to fix this.

First, make sure your leg leash is fully clipped. No, we’re not being condescending — it can be hard to tell for sure if the leg leash is fully clipped and locked into place! The video below shows exactly what to look for to make sure your leg leash buckle is securely clipped. Support the buckle from the back and pop it through the circle.

Next, if you’re using the single point leg leash, make sure your drop length isn’t too short. It should land in the crease of your thigh, with the loop around the very top of the thigh. If your drop length is too short, it will pull your buckle out of alignment, which could cause it to pop open. Try lengthening your drop so it’s not under constant tension.

Lastly, make sure your holster isn’t pressing the leg leash buckle open. Some people find that when they sit or bend, the bottom of their holster contacts the leg leash button, popping it open. To solve this, relocate the buckle. If you’re using the two point leg leash, try tying it higher on your faceplate to prevent interference. If you’re using the single point leg leash, try rotating the buckle to a different place on your thigh, or switch to the two point leg leash.

If you have tried all these tips and still have a problem, you may have a defective buckle. Every buckle is tested at the factory, so this is unusual in a new product, but it could happen on an older or worn product. Contact us for a warranty replacement and we’ll get you taken care of!

Leg leash is fraying

Is your leg leash starting to fray? Did the material catch on something and pull out a thread? Here’s an easy fix.

The Enigma leg leash material is designed to be soft and skin-friendly. However, the softness that makes it comfortable has a tradeoff, in that it’s not as abrasion resistant. You may notice little threads catching or pulling out. A few threads here and there are just a cosmetic issue, and not really anything to worry about. If you’d like to improve the appearance of the leg leash, the video below shows how you can (very carefully) shrink the threads down with a lighter. Be careful not to melt too much, or you could stiffen the fabric or melt through it.

Leg leash is uncomfortable

Do you find the Enigma leg leash uncomfortable? Dealing with pinching, rubbing, or irritation? Here’s how to fix it.

First, double check your adjustment in the sections above. The most common cause of discomfort is improper adjustment. If you’re using the single point leg leash, make sure your drop height is correct, and that the loop is at the very top of your thigh, above the taper. Use the minimum amount of tightness necessary to keep the loop from falling down. Don’t go overboard with tightness! If you’re using the two point leg leash, make sure it’s just tight enough to keep your holster from rising more than a few inches. Don’t use your two point leg leash to hold your holster down all the time or to keep your belt from riding up — you should only feel tension on it when drawing the gun. It should be neutral at all other times.

Once you’ve got your leg leash adjusted properly, give yourself some time to get used to it. Like a new pair of boots or a new bra, it’s normal to feel hyper-aware of it at first. Wear your Enigma around the house for a while to get comfortable with it before attempting to use it for an entire day. This will allow you to make micro adjustments and fine tune it for your body, which can be hard to do discreetly in public. Like any new thing, give yourself some time to adjust before giving up.

Next, try the other leg leash option. If you’ve tried one, adjusted it correctly, and don’t like it, try the other one! Many folks find they have a strong preference for either the single point or two point leg leash. The two point style can be worn looser, which many find more comfortable. Your body is unique, and your preferences will be, too! This is completely normal. The Enigma comes with options so you can customize it just for you.

Last, try a different undergarment. If you’re not already using one, an undergarment can provide an extra layer of comfort between your skin and your Enigma. You may find you prefer a different undergarment for concealed carry than what you normally wear.
