The Enigma OS Standard is PHLster's open-source beltless concealed carry chassis for pistols WITHOUT a weapon-mounted light or laser. "OS" stands for "Open Source" — you supply your own compatible holster shell, giving you the widest possible range of firearm compatibility and holster options. The Enigma OS Standard does NOT come assembled and does NOT include a holster shell. You must have a compatible holster in hand before ordering.
12-Point Adjustable Faceplate: The Standard Enigma OS faceplate has 6 adjustment holes on each side (12 total), allowing you to fine-tune cant, grip tuck, and slide tuck for different gun sizes and holster brands. The patented variable-flex design is stiffer where it passes over the holster wing and more flexible over the slide, making the grip tuck close to your body to reduce printing across different body types. Two selectable buckle positions help control slide and optic printing.
Carry Without a Belt: The Enigma doesn't anchor to your clothing. Position your holster wherever it's best for your body shape — not where your belt happens to sit. Wear it with jeans, dress pants, gym shorts, scrubs, leggings, skirts, or sweats. From the office to the gym, you have complete freedom of wardrobe.
Open Source Compatibility: The Standard Enigma OS works with any non-light-bearing IWB holster that has a compatible concealment wing (Modwing, Darkwing, or Ravenwing) with standard 5/8" hole spacing. This includes holsters from PHLster (Pro, Skeleton, City Special), Henry Holsters, KSG Armory, Dark Star Gear, Smoky Mountain Concealment (smokymtnconcealment.com), JM Custom Kydex, and more. Check the Standard Enigma OS Fit Guide before purchasing to make sure you have a compatible holster.
Two Leg Leash Options Included: The Single Point leg leash wraps around your upper thigh with an elastic insert for a forgiving, comfortable fit. The Two Point leg leash fits like a step-in climbing harness and is ideal for active lifestyles. Both feature patented quick-adjust buckles and softer webbing. Choose whichever works best for your body and activities.
What's in the Box:
- Standard Enigma OS faceplate with 12 adjustment holes (disassembled)
- Waist belt with Fidlock magnetic buckle (fits up to 46" waist)
- Single Point leg leash (fits up to 36" thigh)
- Two Point leg leash (fits up to 36" thigh)
- All necessary mounting hardware and spacers
NOT included: Holster shell. You must supply your own compatible holster. We strongly recommend finding and purchasing a compatible holster BEFORE ordering the Enigma OS Standard.
Who This Product Is For: The Standard Enigma OS is best for enthusiasts and tinkerers who want maximum control over their setup. Choose the Standard Enigma OS if your gun is NOT on the Enigma Express compatibility list, if you want to use a specific third-party holster shell (such as one with extra muzzle length or a molded-in wedge), or if you simply prefer to build and customize your own system. Assembly takes roughly 20–30 minutes with a Phillips head screwdriver.
If we make an Enigma Express for your gun, we recommend getting the Express instead — it's pre-assembled, more streamlined, and easier to use. If your gun has a weapon-mounted light or laser, you need the Light Bearing Enigma OS instead. Do NOT attempt to use a light-bearing holster on the Standard Enigma OS — it is unsafe and will void your warranty. For extended waist sizing up to 60", add the Sport Belt accessory (no tools required to swap). For added comfort, consider the Wedge Rx.
All Enigma models are optics compatible and can be configured for right- or left-handed use. Patent 11629930-B2.
[TAB:Compatibility]
Important: The Standard Enigma OS does NOT include a holster. You must supply your own compatible holster shell. Before ordering, use the Standard Enigma OS Fit Guide to find a holster that meets ALL compatibility requirements. Do NOT attempt to "make it work" with a holster that doesn't meet every requirement — this can lead to failure, injury, or death.
Compatible Concealment Wings
Your holster must have one of the following concealment wings with standard 5/8" on-center hole spacing:
- Modwing
- Darkwing (Dark Star Gear)
- Ravenwing (Raven Concealment)
Holsters with proprietary wing spacing (such as Vedder) are NOT compatible. If you're unsure whether your holster's wing is compatible, contact PHLster support with a photo of your holster.
Recommended Holster Brands
PHLster (direct compatibility)
- PHLster Pro Holster — extra muzzle length and molded-in wedge for improved concealment
- PHLster Skeleton — ultra-minimalist, compact footprint (NOTE: if we make an Express for your gun, buy the Enigma Express instead of buying the Skeleton and OS separately)
- PHLster City Special — revolver holster for J-Frames and LCR (NOTE: if available for your revolver, buy the Enigma Express instead of buying the City Special and OS separately)
Henry Holsters
- Henry Flint — for full-size guns
- Henry Flint Compact — for compact guns
- Note: some Henry shells have molded-in wedges and/or extra muzzle length. These improve grip tuck but may increase muzzle printing in leggings or yoga pants. Henry shells have clip blocking (raised bumps for belt hardware) which add slightly to the profile.
KSG Armory
- KSG Declaration — optimized for the Enigma, no clip blocking
- Other KSG models are compatible but may have clip blocking
- KSG shells have adjustable retention by default. You can request fixed retention conversion from KSG, or purchase the PHLster Fixed Retention Kit when ordering your Enigma.
Dark Star Gear
- Hitchhiker
- Orion
- Note: some models have extra muzzle length
Holsterco
- Holsterco Stealth — choose "RCS Overhook" attachment and "Add Modwing" concealment claw option; note in your order that it's for the Enigma
Other Compatible Brands
- JM Custom Kydex
- Eclipse Holsters
- Concealment Express
Some third-party holsters have adjustable retention. If your holster has adjustable retention, you MUST purchase the Fixed Retention Kit accessory along with your Enigma OS.
NOT Compatible
- Light-bearing holsters — Do NOT use a light-bearing holster on the Standard Enigma OS. This is unsafe and will void your warranty. If your gun has a light or laser, you need the Light Bearing Enigma OS.
- Sidecar holsters — Holsters with attached magazine carriers are NOT compatible.
- Holsters with proprietary wing spacing — Wings must have standard 5/8" on-center hole spacing. Proprietary systems (such as Vedder) will not work.
- Holsters without a concealment wing — The Enigma attaches through the wing. A wing (Modwing, Darkwing, or Ravenwing) is required.
- Modified or DIY holsters — Do NOT attempt to drill, modify, or force-fit a holster to work with the Enigma. If it doesn't meet the Fit Guide requirements, do not use it.
Firearm Compatibility
Because you supply your own holster, the Standard Enigma OS works with virtually any pistol or revolver for which you can find a compatible holster shell — including guns that are NOT on the Enigma Express fit list. This includes compact, subcompact, and full-size pistols, as well as revolvers (with the PHLster City Special shell). The Standard Enigma OS is the right choice if we don't make an Enigma Express for your specific gun.
Optics and Sights
- Slide-mounted red dot sights: Compatible (depends on holster shell)
- Suppressor-height sights: Compatible (depends on holster shell)
WARNING: There are holsters on the market advertised as "Enigma compatible" when they are NOT. In the event of a conflict between another manufacturer's claims and the PHLster Fit Guide, the PHLster Fit Guide is the final authority. Just because a holster is for sale doesn't mean it's safe. If you have any doubts, contact PHLster support with a photo of your holster before using it.
[/TAB] [TAB:Sizing]
Waist Belt
The included nylon waist belt fits up to a 46" waist. The belt adjusts all the way down to where the buckle touches the faceplate, so petite users can wear it as well. If you need a larger size, the Sport Belt accessory extends the fit range up to 60" and adds a comfortable elastic back panel with pockets. The Sport Belt swaps in with no tools required.
Leg Leash
Both included leg leashes accommodate up to a 36" thigh circumference. Measure around the widest part of your upper thigh where you plan to wear the leash.
How to Measure Your Waist
Measure around your body at the point where you plan to wear the Enigma. This is typically at or slightly below your natural waist, roughly at the navel. The Enigma is worn under your clothing, so measure over a thin layer (underwear or a t-shirt). Do not measure over bulky clothing.
Faceplate Sizing
The Standard Enigma OS faceplate is approximately 12" wide. The 12 adjustment holes (6 per side) accommodate a wide range of gun sizes, from subcompact to full-size. Use the adjustment holes to control cant, grip tuck, and overall concealment. PHLster recommends starting with holes R2 and L3 if your waist is under 33", or R2 and L2 if your waist is over 33", and adjusting from there.
Buckle Options
The included Fidlock magnetic buckle provides easy on/off. The buckle can be installed on the right or left side of the faceplate to accommodate different body types or gear placement. If the buckle is too wide for your frame or creates a pressure point on your hip bone, the optional Reduced Size Buckle cuts the buckle footprint by about 50%. The Reduced Size Buckle works with all Enigma models.
[/TAB] [TAB:FAQ]
What's the difference between the Enigma OS Standard and the Enigma Express?
The Enigma Express comes fully assembled with a PHLster Skeleton holster included. It's the easiest and fastest way to get started. The Standard Enigma OS does NOT include a holster — you provide your own compatible shell and assemble it yourself. The OS has a larger faceplate with 12 adjustment holes for maximum tunability. Choose the OS if we don't make an Express for your gun, if you want to use a third-party holster, or if you want holster features like extra muzzle length or a molded-in wedge. If we make an Express for your gun, we recommend the Express for most people.
Does the Standard Enigma OS come with a holster?
No. The Standard Enigma OS includes the faceplate, belt, leg leashes, Fidlock buckle, and mounting hardware. You must supply your own compatible holster shell. Find a compatible holster using the Fit Guide BEFORE ordering.
Can I use any holster with the Standard Enigma OS?
No. Your holster must have a compatible concealment wing (Modwing, Darkwing, or Ravenwing) with standard 5/8" hole spacing. The holster must meet ALL requirements in the PHLster Fit Guide. Holsters with proprietary wing spacing, sidecar-style holsters, and light-bearing holsters are NOT compatible. Do not attempt to modify a holster to make it fit.
Can I use a gun with a weapon light or laser on the Standard Enigma OS?
No. Absolutely not. The Standard Enigma OS is for guns WITHOUT lights or lasers only. Using a light-bearing holster on the Standard Enigma OS is dangerous, can cause the system to fail, and voids your warranty. If your gun has a light or laser, you need the Light Bearing Enigma OS instead.
What if my holster has adjustable retention?
If your holster has adjustable retention (a screw that lets you tighten or loosen the fit around the gun), you must purchase the Fixed Retention Kit accessory along with your Enigma OS. The kit converts the holster to fixed retention, which is required for safe use with the Enigma faceplate. Some manufacturers (like KSG Armory) can convert their shells to fixed retention before shipping — contact them directly to ask.
Can I conceal carry in gym shorts, sweatpants, or leggings with the Enigma OS Standard?
Yes. Because the Enigma doesn't attach to your clothing, it works with anything — gym shorts, sweatpants, scrubs, leggings, skirts, dress pants, jeans, or even just underwear. The inner belt holds the gun securely around your waist independent of whatever you're wearing.
How long does assembly take?
Assembly takes roughly 20–30 minutes with a Phillips head screwdriver. PHLster provides detailed video instructions and written step-by-step guides. Watch the assembly video before you buy so you have a full understanding of the process.
Is the Standard Enigma OS compatible with red dot optics?
Yes. All Enigma models are optics compatible. Whether your specific optic fits depends on your holster shell — make sure the shell you choose accommodates your optic or suppressor-height sights.
Can I set it up for left-handed carry?
Yes. The Standard Enigma OS is fully ambidextrous. The buckle can be installed on either side of the faceplate, and the leg leash attaches to your dominant-hand side.
What if the included belt doesn't fit me?
The included belt fits up to a 46" waist and adjusts down small enough for petite users. For larger waist sizes (up to 60"), add the Sport Belt accessory, which swaps in with no tools. The Sport Belt also adds a wider elastic back panel for improved comfort and includes pockets. If the Fidlock buckle creates a pressure point on your hip bone, try the optional Reduced Size Buckle.
What's the difference between the Standard Enigma OS and the Light Bearing Enigma OS?
The Standard Enigma OS is for guns WITHOUT a weapon-mounted light or laser. The Light Bearing Enigma OS is for guns WITH a light or laser. They have different faceplate designs and mounting systems. Do not mix them up — using a light-bearing holster on the Standard faceplate is unsafe.
What holster should I get if I'm not sure?
If PHLster makes a Skeleton holster for your gun, we recommend buying the Enigma Express instead (it comes with the Skeleton pre-installed). If your gun isn't on the Express list, start with the Fit Guide. PHLster Pro holsters, Henry Flint holsters, and KSG Declaration holsters are popular choices. When in doubt, contact PHLster support — they can help you find the right holster for your specific gun.
What accessories should I consider?
Popular accessories include the Sport Belt (extended sizing and comfort), Wedge Rx (improved comfort and concealment), eMod wing inserts (helps the faceplate lay flatter against the wing), Reduced Size Buckle (smaller buckle footprint), Fixed Retention Kit (required for adjustable retention holsters), Papoose by Levo Designs (fabric liner for skin comfort), and magazine pouch adapters for carrying a spare mag on the Enigma belt.
Can I use PHLster's eMod inserts?
Yes. The eMod wing inserts are angled inserts that replace the standard rectangular Modwing inserts. They help the Enigma faceplate lay flatter against the wing for a smoother profile. They're optional but recommended, and can be added during checkout or purchased separately.
