The Light Bearing Enigma OS is PHLster's open-source beltless concealed carry chassis for pistols WITH a weapon-mounted light or laser. "OS" stands for "Open Source" — you supply your own compatible light-bearing holster shell, giving you the widest possible range of gun-and-light compatibility. The Light Bearing Enigma OS does NOT come assembled and does NOT include a holster shell. You must have a compatible holster in hand before ordering.
Designed for Weapon-Mounted Lights and Lasers: The Light Bearing Enigma OS uses a different faceplate and mounting system than the Standard Enigma OS. The faceplate has two long, parallel mounting slots and attaches to the holster with four screws. This four-point mounting system is specifically engineered to balance the extra weight of a weapon-mounted light or laser, distributing stress across the faceplate for safe, reliable, long-term use. Do NOT attempt to use the Standard Enigma OS with a light-bearing holster — they are not interchangeable.
Adjustable Faceplate: The Light Bearing Enigma OS faceplate has four adjustment holes at either end, letting you fine-tune your setup for different-sized guns and holsters. Attaching the belt on offset holes gives you an additional 5 degrees of cant adjustment beyond what you get from loosening and rotating the holster on the faceplate screws. The patented variable-flex design conforms to your body while staying stiff enough to activate the holster's wing for good concealment mechanics.
Carry Without a Belt: The Enigma doesn't anchor to your clothing. Position your holster wherever it's best for your body shape — not where your belt happens to sit. Wear it with jeans, dress pants, gym shorts, scrubs, leggings, skirts, or sweats. From the office to the gym, you have complete freedom of wardrobe.
Open Source Compatibility: The Light Bearing Enigma OS was designed around the PHLster Floodlight2, Henry Spark, and Dark Star Gear Rigel. It works with any compatible light-bearing IWB holster that meets ALL the requirements in the Light Bearing Enigma OS Fit Guide. It's a popular choice for smaller weapon lights like the Streamlight TLR-7 and TLR-7 Sub, as well as full-size lights like the Surefire X300 and Streamlight TLR-1. Because you add your own holster, you can choose one with the specific holster features you need — including gun-specific molding that the "universal" Floodlight2 doesn't offer.
Two Leg Leash Options Included: The Single Point leg leash wraps around your upper thigh with an elastic insert for a forgiving, comfortable fit. The Two Point leg leash fits like a step-in climbing harness and is ideal for active lifestyles. Both feature patented quick-adjust buckles and softer webbing. Choose whichever works best for your body and activities.
What's in the Box:
- Light Bearing Enigma OS faceplate with adjustment holes and parallel mounting slots (disassembled)
- Waist belt with Fidlock magnetic buckle (fits up to 48" waist)
- Single Point leg leash (fits up to 36" thigh)
- Two Point leg leash (fits up to 36" thigh)
- All necessary mounting hardware and spacers
NOT included: Holster shell. You must supply your own compatible light-bearing holster. We strongly recommend finding and purchasing a compatible holster BEFORE ordering the Light Bearing Enigma OS. It can be difficult or impossible to find compatible holster shells for some gun/light combinations — verify availability first.
Who This Product Is For: The Light Bearing Enigma OS is best for enthusiasts and tinkerers who carry a gun with a weapon-mounted light or laser and want maximum control over their setup. Choose it if you want to use a specific gun/light combination that isn't covered by the Light Bearing Enigma Express, if you want to use a third-party holster (like a Henry Spark or Dark Star Gear Rigel), if you prefer a gun-specific molded shell rather than a universal light-indexed holster, or if you carry with smaller lights like the TLR-7 or TLR-7 Sub. Assembly requires a Phillips head screwdriver and takes roughly 20–30 minutes.
If you carry a full-size duty pistol with a Surefire X300 or Streamlight TLR-1 and want a pre-assembled, ready-to-wear system, the Light Bearing Enigma Express comes with the Floodlight2 holster already installed. If your gun does NOT have a light or laser, you need the Standard Enigma OS instead. Do NOT mix the two — they are not interchangeable. For extended waist sizing up to 60", add the Sport Belt accessory (no tools required to swap). For added comfort, consider the Wedge Rx.
All Enigma models are optics compatible and can be configured for right- or left-handed use. Patent pending.
[TAB:Compatibility]
Important: The Light Bearing Enigma OS does NOT include a holster. You must supply your own compatible light-bearing holster shell. Before ordering, use the Light Bearing Enigma OS Fit Guide to find a holster that meets ALL compatibility requirements. Your holster must have all four mounting points in the correct location. Do NOT attempt to "make it work" with a holster that doesn't meet every requirement — this can lead to failure, injury, or death.
Mounting System
The Light Bearing Enigma OS faceplate has two long, parallel slots. The holster attaches with four screws through these slots. This four-point mounting system is different from the two-screw system on the Standard Enigma OS. The Light Bearing faceplate is specifically designed to handle the additional weight and torque of a weapon-mounted light or laser.
Recommended Holster Brands
PHLster Floodlight2
- A "universal" light-bearing holster that indexes on the weapon light, not the gun
- Compatible lights: Surefire X300U-A, X300U-B, X300U-T, Streamlight TLR-1, TLR-1S, TLR-1 HL
- NOT compatible: TLR-1 HL-X, TLR-1 HPX, or any other light model
- Fits most duty-sized pistols when paired with a supported light
- NOTE: If you want the Floodlight2 specifically, we recommend buying the Light Bearing Enigma Express instead — it comes pre-assembled with the FL2
Henry Holsters
- Henry Spark — light-bearing holster molded to both the gun and the light (full-size lights)
- Henry Ember — for the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub, TLR-7 HL-X, and a growing range of other light combinations
- Henry Holsters are built from the ground up for the PHLster Enigma OS and assemble easily
- Henry also sells pre-assembled Light Bearing Enigma OS + holster combos on their website
Dark Star Gear
- Rigel — select your gun make first, then check if there's a Rigel model for your gun/light combo
NOT Compatible
- Non-light-bearing holsters — Do NOT use a standard (non-light-bearing) holster on the Light Bearing Enigma OS. If your gun does not have a light or laser, you need the Standard Enigma OS.
- Sidecar holsters — Holsters with attached magazine carriers are NOT compatible.
- Holsters without correct four-point mounting — Your holster must have all four mounting points in the correct positions. If even one point is off, do NOT use the holster.
- Modified or DIY holsters — Do NOT attempt to drill, modify, or force-fit a holster to work with the Enigma. If it doesn't meet the Fit Guide requirements, do not use it.
- Tenicor holsters (V2 faceplate) — No longer recommended due to hardware length incompatibility.
Firearm and Light Compatibility
Because you supply your own holster, the Light Bearing Enigma OS works with virtually any pistol and weapon-light combination for which you can find a compatible holster shell. The system was designed around full-size lights like the Surefire X300 and Streamlight TLR-1, but it also works well with smaller lights like the Streamlight TLR-7, TLR-7A, and TLR-7 Sub — you just need to find the right holster shell. Weapon-mounted lasers are also supported as long as the holster is compatible.
Note: It can be harder to find compatible holster shells for less common gun/light combinations. Check the Fit Guide and verify holster availability BEFORE purchasing the Enigma.
Optics and Sights
- Slide-mounted red dot sights: Compatible (depends on holster shell)
- Suppressor-height sights: Compatible (depends on holster shell)
WARNING: There are holsters on the market advertised as "Enigma compatible" when they are NOT. In the event of a conflict between another manufacturer's claims and the PHLster Light Bearing Enigma OS Fit Guide, the PHLster Fit Guide is the final authority. Just because a holster is for sale doesn't mean it's safe. If you have any doubts, contact PHLster support with a photo of your holster before using it.
[/TAB] [TAB:Sizing]
Waist Belt
The included 1.5"-wide nylon waist belt fits up to a 48" waist. The belt adjusts all the way down to where the buckle touches the faceplate, so petite users can wear it as well. If you need a larger size, the Sport Belt accessory extends the fit range up to 60" and adds a comfortable elastic back panel with pockets. The Sport Belt swaps in with no tools required.
Leg Leash
Both included leg leashes accommodate up to a 36" thigh circumference. Measure around the widest part of your upper thigh where you plan to wear the leash. Smaller users may need to shorten the leg leash drop — you can fasten the leash through one of the larger faceplate holes rather than through the leg leash slot.
How to Measure Your Waist
Measure around your body at the point where you plan to wear the Enigma. This is typically at or slightly below your natural waist, roughly at the navel. The Enigma is worn under your clothing, so measure over a thin layer (underwear or a t-shirt). Do not measure over bulky clothing.
Faceplate Sizing
The Light Bearing Enigma OS faceplate has multiple belt attachment holes at either end. These holes let you fine-tune the fit with larger or smaller holster shells. The overall span of the faceplate plus the belt attachment ends is wider than the Light Bearing Enigma Express, which uses a more streamlined direct-thread belt attachment.
Buckle Options
The included Fidlock magnetic buckle provides easy on/off. If the buckle is too wide for your frame or creates a pressure point on your hip bone, the optional Reduced Size Buckle cuts the buckle footprint by about 50%. The Reduced Size Buckle works with all Enigma models.
[/TAB] [TAB:FAQ]
What's the difference between the Light Bearing Enigma OS and the Light Bearing Enigma Express?
The Light Bearing Enigma Express comes fully assembled with a PHLster Floodlight2 holster included. It's the easiest and fastest way to carry a duty-sized pistol with an X300 or TLR-1. The Light Bearing Enigma OS does NOT include a holster — you supply your own compatible light-bearing shell and assemble it yourself. The OS faceplate has wider adjustment slots and multiple belt attachment points to accommodate different holster brands and sizes. Choose the OS if you want to use a smaller light (like the TLR-7), a gun-specific molded holster (like the Henry Spark), or any gun/light combo not covered by the Express.
Does the Light Bearing Enigma OS come with a holster?
No. The Light Bearing Enigma OS includes the faceplate, belt, both leg leashes, Fidlock buckle, and mounting hardware. You must supply your own compatible light-bearing holster shell. Find a compatible holster using the Fit Guide BEFORE ordering. Some gun/light combinations may not have a compatible holster available.
Can I use any light-bearing holster with the Light Bearing Enigma OS?
No. Your holster must meet ALL requirements in the PHLster Light Bearing Enigma OS Fit Guide. It must have the correct four-point mounting pattern. The system was designed around the PHLster Floodlight2, Henry Spark, and Dark Star Gear Rigel. Other holsters may work if they meet every requirement, but results are not guaranteed. Do not attempt to modify a holster to make it fit.
What weapon lights are compatible?
The Light Bearing Enigma OS itself is compatible with any weapon light or laser — the holster determines light compatibility, not the Enigma faceplate. Popular compatible setups include Surefire X300U (A/B/T), Streamlight TLR-1, TLR-1S, TLR-1 HL, TLR-7, TLR-7A, TLR-7 Sub, and various weapon-mounted lasers. Make sure your holster is specifically made for your exact light model.
Can I use the Light Bearing Enigma OS with a gun that does NOT have a light?
No. The Light Bearing Enigma OS is designed exclusively for guns with a weapon-mounted light or laser. If your gun does not have a light or laser, you need the Standard Enigma OS or Enigma Express instead. Do NOT mix the two systems — they are not interchangeable.
Can I use the Standard Enigma OS with a light-bearing holster?
No. The Standard Enigma OS is for non-light-bearing holsters only. Light-bearing holsters put excess stress on the Standard faceplate, which can cause it to fail. This is dangerous and voids your warranty. If your gun has a light or laser, you must use the Light Bearing Enigma OS.
Can I conceal carry a gun with a light in gym shorts, sweatpants, or leggings?
Yes, but keep your expectations realistic. The Enigma doesn't attach to your clothing, so it works with anything. However, adding a weapon-mounted light makes the holster footprint wider and longer, which can be more difficult to conceal on some body types and in thinner fabrics. Full-size guns with full-size lights may be too large to conceal in leggings or tight clothing for some people.
Is the Light Bearing Enigma OS compatible with red dot optics?
Yes. All Enigma models are optics compatible. Whether your specific optic fits depends on your holster shell — make sure the shell you choose accommodates your optic or suppressor-height sights.
Can I set it up for left-handed carry?
Yes. The Light Bearing Enigma OS is fully ambidextrous. The buckle can be installed on either side of the faceplate, and the leg leash attaches to your dominant-hand side.
Are Tenicor holsters compatible?
Tenicor holsters (Sagax Lux, Malus Sol, Certum, Velo) were compatible with the older V1 Light Bearing Enigma OS only. The current V2 faceplate (sold after March 3, 2025) is NOT compatible with Tenicor hardware — the screws are too short for the new faceplate. PHLster no longer recommends using the Enigma with Tenicor holsters.
What if the included belt doesn't fit me?
The included belt fits up to a 48" waist and adjusts down small enough for petite users. For larger waist sizes (up to 60"), add the Sport Belt accessory, which swaps in with no tools. The Sport Belt also adds a wider elastic back panel for improved comfort and includes pockets. If the Fidlock buckle creates a pressure point on your hip bone, try the optional Reduced Size Buckle.
How long does assembly take?
Assembly takes roughly 20–30 minutes with a Phillips head screwdriver. PHLster provides detailed video and written instructions. Your holster must have all four mounting points in the correct location before assembly. Watch the assembly video before purchasing so you fully understand the process.
What accessories should I consider?
Popular accessories include the Sport Belt (extended sizing and comfort), Wedge Rx (improved comfort and concealment), Reduced Size Buckle (smaller buckle footprint), Papoose by Levo Designs (fabric liner for skin comfort), Light Bearing Modwing Replacement Kit (spare parts for the Floodlight2 or other light-bearing holsters), and magazine pouch adapters for carrying a spare mag on the Enigma belt.
Can Henry Holsters sell me a pre-assembled Light Bearing Enigma OS with a holster?
Yes. Henry Holsters offers pre-assembled Light Bearing Enigma OS combos with their Spark and Ember holsters for select gun/light combinations. This is the easiest route if you want a gun-specific molded shell on the Enigma OS platform without doing the assembly yourself.
